[W&M Lacrosse] Sarah Dalton Promoted to Tribe Lax's Top
July 19, 2010

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (July 19, 2010)—William and Mary lacrosse head coach Christine Halfpenny has announced the promotion of Sarah Dalton to the program’s top assistant position.

Dalton joined the Tribe’s staff in the summer of 2009 and was instrumental in the team’s success last spring, helping the squad earn a national ranking for nearly the entire season and record its third consecutive conference tournament berth.

Working primarily with the attack, she helped W&M total 299 points, 219 goals and 80 assists last season – all figures that ranked among the top eight on the program’s single-season list. Additionally, Dalton was also instrumental in helping attacker Mary Zulty earn all-region and all-conference honors, while freshman attacker Kyrstin Mackrides was selected to the CAA All-Rookie Team.

"I am pleased to announce the promotion of Sarah to our top assistant position,” Halfpenny said. “Last year, Sarah entered our program fresh from her college playing days, and I couldn't have been more impressed with how smoothly she transitioned to the coaching ranks. She is a tireless worker in the office and helps bring a dynamic style of play to field. She will again mainly oversee the attacking unit but also work with our midfielders this season. I am thrilled to work with Sarah once again this season as we strive to achieve our goals of winning a CAA Championship and reaching the NCAA Tournament."

Prior to joining the Tribe staff, Dalton was a three-time IWLCA All-American and Boston University where she finished her career as the most decorated player in the program’s history. Selected to the U.S. Developmental Team twice, she finished her outstanding collegiate career with a school record 247 goals, 284 points and 191 draw controls. As a senior, she led the nation with 91 goals, fifth most in NCAA history, and shattered her own previous BU single-season record of 71 goals.
