WOMENSLAX.COM ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Dorrien Van Dyke – Stony Brook
Freshman midfielder has freshman record 9 points in 19-6 win over Siena
Stony Brook’s freshman midfielder, Dorrien Van Dyke, earns WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week honors after breaking the program record for points in a single game on Saturday. The Seawolves defeated Siena 19-6, and Van Dyke was on fire scoring five goals and notching four assists. The nine points are tied for fifth-most in Seawolves single-game history with multiple players and are the most for a player other than former All-American Claire Petersen. Van Dyke also led the team in the faceoff circle with four draw controls. Head Coach Joe Spallina said of Van Dyke’s performance, “[Dorrien Van Dyke] is unbelievable. She’s a star. She’s our leading goal scorer, is good on the draw and is starting to develop other aspects of her game. Her stat line has been very balanced lately with assists to match her goals. For her to have that lacrosse IQ to hit the open player, hit the open player and the third time keep it to herself and finish is a sign of her growing up. She just wants for the team to do well. She’s as good as we thought she would be—probably even better.” Van Dyke, a Northport, NY native also had eight points (four goals, four assists) and added a ground ball in a 16-5 victory over the Iona Gaels earlier in the week. Van Dyke and the Seawolves commence America East play with a home game against UMBC Saturday, March 29 at 1PM.
