WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week - Taylor Cummings

Freshman midfielder, Taylor Cummings, clinches her first WomensLax.com Rookie of the week honor after an impressive outing against the 2nd-ranked Syracuse Orange on Sunday. Cummings, an Ellicott City (MD) native and 2-time Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Year, took control both inside the draw circle and in front of the crease. Maryland entered the contest ranked #4, and the game provided a significant early test against the 2012 National Championship runner-up. Cummings dominated on the draw, controlling a game-high 6 draw controls in the 19-11 win, tallied 5 goals (second only to last year’s Tewaaraton Trophy winner, Katie Schwarzmann), and caused a turnover. Cummings, Inside Lacrosse’s #1 rising freshman, showed her maturity with a solid performance against the Orange inside the storied “big time venue” Carrier Dome. Additionally, the victory avenged last year’s one-goal loss to the Orange, which broke the Terps’ 36-game home win streak. Cummings and the Terrapins will begin ACC competition this weekend, when they open their home schedule against Duke, Sunday at 1PM at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
