Katie Schwarzmann : Maryland
Freshman paces Terps and notches the first game-winner of her career this weekend
Maryland's freshman midfielder, Katie Schwarzmann, receives her second WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week honor, as she continues to assert herself as one of the top freshman in the country. Schwarzmann notched three goals on three shots against the red-hot James Madison Dukes on Sunday, including the game winner with 5:56 remaining, as the Terps found their undefeated season on the line, tied at 7-7. Schwarzmann's gutsy performance came on the heels of another three point showing (2g, 1a), as Maryland dominated 8th-ranked Stanford 20-8, three days prior. The freshman has broken into and consistently contributed to a veteran Maryland starting line-up which returned every single starter from 2009. Schwarzmann is the third-leading scorer on a Maryland offense which averages 15.3 goals a game, trailing only All-Americans, Kerri Ellen Johnson and Caitlyn McFadden. Maryland (10-0) returns to action on Wednesday when they host 10th-ranked Towson at 7 PM.
