Freshman midfielder leads Maryland in dominant win over 5th-ranked Duke

 

Maryland's freshman midfielder, Katie Schwarzmann, receives WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week honors, after an impressive all-around performance in the Terps' 17-4 victory over the Blue Devils on Saturday. Schwarzmann tallied 3 goals and an assist on Saturday, but perhaps more noteworthy was her impact all over the field, to include 5 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers, and 2 draw controls. Schwarzmann, a three-sport high school athlete and three-time lacrosse All-American, hails from nearby Sykesville, MD. The game marked the ACC opener for both teams as Maryland held Duke to their lowest scoring output since 2005. Schwarzmann and the Terps (3-0, 1-0) return to action Friday at home, against another ACC rival, Virginia.
