Freshman midfielder leads Penn to third-straight Ivy League Championship
Penn's freshman midfielder, Erin Brennan, receives the WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week this week, after notching 5 goals and 4 assists over the weekend to lead Penn past Princeton and Brown. Brennan got to work immediately against 7th-ranked Princeton, as she notched a helper just two minutes into the game and added 3 goals within the first 13 minute to set pace for the Quakers. The freshman factored in half of Penn’s goals and added three draw controls as the Quakers prevailed, 10-5. Brennan notched 2 goals and 2 helpers against Brown, as the Quakers finished the Conference season with a perfect 7-0 record and a third-straight Ivy League Title. Penn secured their automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, solidifying the Quakers' plan to make a run to the National Championship again in 2009. Brennan, who hails from hails from Garden City, NY, has been a prolific offensive addition to the Quakers, recording 30 points (18g, 12a) thus far in her freshman campaign -- good for third on the Penn squad. Brennan and the Quakers return to action as they head to Evanston for a repeat of the 2008 National Championship game. Nearly one year ago to the day, Penn handed the Wildcats their only loss of 2008 and the Quakers will look to repeat history on Saturday night.
